Things in place before you start ideally You have an idea of what you want the Website to be about whether it's a Personal project or a business take a Bit of time to look at a few similar Websites and note down the kind of Content they have the pages they have The images they use and what they talk About try to gather anything you'll use On the site like the logo and images Into a folder on your computer so it's Easy to access done is better than than Perfect this version of your site is Just the start and over time you'll be Able to add and change things as it Grows to take the pressure off and let's Get it done you can't have a website Without hosting and a domain hosting is Where your site files are stored and a Domain is the address where people will Go to view your website we're going to Make this part of the process super easy By using Blu host for both hosting and Domain name to get started follow the Link on screen or in the description of The video and that will take you through To the blue host site and because you've Used one of our links you're going to Get the very best discount applied to Blue host prices first click on the get Started now button if you're just Starting out I'd recommend going with The basic plan for now and as your site Grows you can always upgrade to another
Plan if you need more sites space and Support but just looking at basic you'll Getting up to 10 websites a generous Amount of storage a free domain which You'd normally pay for and some Fantastic security and support now take A look and weigh up the options and Choose the plan that suits you best then Click on the choose plan button now it's Time to think about the domain name People will use to visit your site I'd Recommend trying to tie this in with What your website is about or use your Business name if the site's going to be For a business to search for a domain Name type the name you would like into The register a new domain box and click On the search for domain button once You've done that you'll see a long list Of available domains now most people Using the internet are familiar with the Doom domain extensions they're very Popular for a number of reasons mainly Because it was one of the first domain Extensions so it has Global recognition And credibility that's all great but Actually finding the perfect.com for Your website might prove to be difficult Because of its popularity it's important To say there are loads of fantastic Domain extensions out there which have Become very popular over the last few Years to select a domain name simply Click on the select button now on the
Cart screen check your order for your Hosting package domain and any Additional Services you can remove any Service by clicking on the bin icon next To it all right you'll see the subt here On the right and there's a nice discount Applied beneath that to purchase the Plan click on the continue to checkout Button and finish the checkout Process once your site's ready you'll See it here on the websites page of your Blue host account if you want to view Some of the settings for your site you Can do that by clicking the settings Button but in this video we will carry On building the site so click on the Edit site button that'll now open a new Tab and log you into your site without Having to use a username or password Which is pretty handy welcome to the Dashboard of your WordPress site well Not quite this is the blue host section Within WordPress for the authentic Experience click on the dashboard icon Here in the menu on the left so now you See welcome to WordPress this is the WordPress dashboard or or it's also Known as the back end of your site this Is the place where all the magic happens And where you can add to and edit your Entire site now this video is going to Be a bit of a crash course on WordPress We do have other videos that go more in Depth you'll find links to them and
Anything else I mentioned in the Description below and if you like what You're seeing in this video and you're Getting something from it make sure you Subscribe to our channel so you don't Miss more videos like this okay so if This is your first time with WordPress This screen can look a bit intimidating But really there's nothing to worry About on the left there's the admin menu This is where you be able to navigate to Different parts of your WordPress Dashboard in the top right hover over Your name and you can either edit your Profile or log out of your site which You'll want to make sure you do when you Finish just so everything's secure no Matter where you are when you're logged Into your site you'll see a black bar Across the top that's the admin bar to View what your site looks like click on Your website name in the top right and You'll be taken to view the front end of Your site you'll see that your site Comes with a basic design and some Content this is the default setup for WordPress A major benefit of using WordPress is That it's highly customizable meaning You don't need to stick with this design You can literally build anything you can Imagine so how do we do that this design And layout is determined by the theme we Are using and you can change the theme
To have a different look I'm going to Show you a theme that will make it super Easy to get fantastic looking site and Design in a few clicks to install that Theme click again on your site name and Return to the WordPress dashboard then Hover your cursor over appearance in the Menu and click on themes These are the themes that are currently Installed on your site to install a new Theme click on the add new theme button Now there are literally thousands of Themes to choose from all you need to do Is type Astra into the search bar then Hop your cursor over the Astra theme and Click the install Button once the theme is installed click The activate button okay so now you've Got your theme on your site let's get a Pre-made design in a couple of clicks to Do that we're going to install the sted Templates plugin and plugins are Basically add-ons or apps that help you Get more out of your site just like There are thousands of themes available For free in WordPress there are even More plugins because Astro wants you to Get up and running as quickly as Possible we even get a little prompt to Install Starter Templates so click on the let's get Started with start a templates button And just like that the plugin is Installed and activated because this
Plugin comes with some fantastic Templates I'd recommend going with the Classic stter templates so click on the Build with templates button you can Search or filter through the templates To easily find a design that is similar To the type of website You're Building Just hover over the different tabs to See the types of templates available I'm Going to create a portfolio starle Website so I'll hover over personal and Click on the portfolio and CV option Your library will be filtered for the Templates that fit with that Time there are a mix of free and PID Templates available you'll notice a Premium tag on the templates that you Pay for you can preview any design by Clicking on it and you'll be able to View it like a live site scroll and Click on the menu items to get a feel For It I'd recommend viewing the few you Like the look of sometimes you might Find the design you're looking for in a Completely different category within the Library that's completely fine because Once you find the design you like I like The look of this web designer template Here on the left you'll see that you can Customize some of the settings straight Away to change the look of the site These are called global settings as they Affect the whole site first you can
Upload a logo by clicking the upload File button here that'll open the media Library for your site which is where all Your media files will be stored to Upload a file click on the upload files Tab then you can select the file from Your computer or drag and drop the file Here like what I'm Doing now click on the select button and You can now see the logo in place on the Design to view the different font Options click on the font pairings and Select the one you like Next change the colors across the site By clicking on the colors you want once You're happy with those choices click on The continue button we'll skip this next Step as we can add anything later to the Site to apply the design to your site Click on the submit and build my website Button and just like that your site will Be built in a few short moments to see What it looks like click on the view Your website button you'll now be taken To your homepage of your site with the Design you picked along with the logo Font and colors you you've chosen it Looks fantastic you can view different Pages of your site by clicking on the Navigation menu now this is in place you Can replace the text and images add more Things to a page and swap them around But before that let's say you want to Change any of the colors or font that
You picked earlier how do we change Those global settings well WordPress has An amazing built-in tool to help with That called the customizer to use the Customizer you can access it from the Front end of your site by clicking on it Here in the admin bar now you'll see the Customizable panel on the left here with A lot of settings which affect the whole Site we won't go through all of them to Change any of the global settings click On the global option you'll now see Options for typography the fonts on your Site colors buttons and More change the fonts click on the Typography option you can now select Another pre-made font pairing if you Prefer to choose your own pairings you Can do that by changing the body font Which is used for the main content of Your site and then selecting The Heading Font too to change the colors across the Site click on the back button to return To the previous menu then click on the Colors option similarly to fonts you Have the options to choose another Pre-made color palette by clicking on Another Style if you want to change a particular Color in their style then you can do That by clicking on that color and using The selector to find the color you Prefer to save any changes made in the Customizer just click the p publish
Button okay great your site looks Fantastic but how do we edit the content Of the site and change the text images And more well first click on the cross In the top left corner to close the Customizer you'll now be back on your Homepage okay let's go back to our Dashboard by clicking on our name in the Top left then click on pages in the menu You'll see we end up under the pages Section of the dashboard with all the Pages on our site in the list this is Where you can add a new page to your Site and build it from scratch by Clicking on the add new page button but We want to edit the homepage to do that Just click on the homepage in the list That'll open up the page editor also Known as the block editor the first Thing you'll see up at the top here on The page is the title and you can edit It by clicking on it and typing in the Title you want next if you hover your Cursor over different parts of the page For example I hover mine over here in This area you'll see that different Sections are highlighted with a blue Outline so the text and image are Separate blocks to edit any block just Click on it so to change an image click On it and you'll see a toolbar across The top of the block now click on the Replace option you'll then get the Option to go to your me media library if
You've already uploaded the image I want To upload an image so I'll click on the Upload option and select an image from My computer awesome now that image has Been replaced you can use the block Settings in the panel on the right to Adjust how the image looks on the page So you may want to play with the Settings until you get it how you Want okay that's looking good to change Any text on the page simply click on the Text block remove the text that is there And replace it with your own text for Example this design is using an info box Right here to have a heading paragraph And button within the same block but This applies to sepal blocks as well for This heading I'll type the text I want And I'll change the paragraph Text you can also change the text on Buttons in exactly the same way Fantastic you can do that for all the Text on your site okay so we've got all The blocks that came with the design but What if you want to add something to the Page to add a block all you need to do Is click on the blue button with a plus Up here that'll open up the block Inserter panel on the left screen you Can now scroll through all the blocks Available depending on the theme and Plugins you have installed you'll likely See different blocks the ones I have Here and much
More to find a particular block type it Into the search bar so I'll type button Then when you see the that you want Click and drag the block and drop it Into the space you want you should see a Blue line to let you know where the Block can be placed you can then edit The block using the toolbar and settings Panel to move the block click the arrows In the toolbar and that will move it up And down the Design to remove a block completely Scroll to the block you want and click On it then click on the three dots in The toolbar and you'll see the delete Option for that block once you finish Editing your page click on the save Button to save those Changes okay that's a basic overview of The block editor and you'll see the same Editor across Pages blog posts and Products or any other content on your Site to preview your edited page click On preview in the top right and then on Preview in a new tab and this is what a Page can look like after spending some Time changing the images text and more Okay so we've edited the content of the Site but what if you want to edit the Navigation menu up here to do that let's Go back to the dashboard by clicking on On our website name then hover your Cursor over appearance on the left and Click on menu to add a page to the
Navigation menu simply check the box Next to that page and click on the add To menu Button you can reorder the menu by Dragging the items into place to delete An item from a menu click on the drop- Down arrow and then on the remove option Once you're happy with the menu click on The save menu Button okay so your site's pretty much Ready to go there's just a couple things To check to make sure things run Smoothly to do that click on settings in The menu on the left first check your Site title to make sure it's the one you Want then check that your WordPress and Site address have the https in the URL That'll just make sure your site is Secure for visitors and if you've made Any changes to these make sure you click The save changes button at the Bottom next click on reading in the menu Then make sure the search engine Invisibility box is Unchecked now click on permal links and Select the postn peral link structure Which will make it easier for search Engines to navigate and understand your Content then click save changes now Visit your site and check everything Works as it should so hopefully now You've been able to follow along and Have a site in front of you and you're Probably thinking well that's it I have
